Statement on Maritime Launch Participation in Canada’s Delegation to NATO STARLIFT Meetings in the Netherlands
Halifax, Nova Scotia, December 8, 2025 - Maritime Launch Services welcomes Canada’s engagement this past week in the Netherlands as select NATO member states gathered to advance the STARLIFT initiative, a collaborative program designed to strengthen the Alliance’s ability to access space quickly and reliably.
Maritime Launch was pleased to join the industry discussions alongside DND and NATO delegates, sharing how Spaceport Nova Scotia’s unique attributes, including high launch availability, optimal inclinations from 38 to 98 degrees, established logistics, and its multi-launch-vehicle business model, position Canada as a meaningful contributor to this emerging network.
STARLIFT aims to build a coordinated network of launch capabilities across participating NATO nations to enable the rapid deployment of satellites and other space-based assets. By leveraging commercial launch providers and existing spaceport infrastructure, the initiative enhances collective readiness, improves resilience, and ensures that Allied forces can respond swiftly to evolving security and defence needs. As noted during the meeting, STARLIFT represents a critical step toward modernizing NATO’s space posture and creating agile access to orbit.
We applaud the Department of National Defence for recognizing the strategic value of Canadian launch infrastructure to the Alliance.
This collaboration marks a significant opportunity for Canada to support the space requirements of more than a dozen allied nations while strengthening our own domestic capability, driving innovation, and reinforcing national and collective security.
Maritime Launch looks forward to continuing to engage with the Government of Canada and NATO partners as the STARLIFT initiative evolves.
