Job Description 

Reporting to the VP of Spaceport Development, the Junior Environmental Specialist will assist with the implementation of environmental compliance and monitoring programs that support responsible and sustainable spaceport operations while ensuring compliance with applicable environmental approvals, permits, and regulatory requirements. 

The Junior Environmental Specialist will work closely with internal teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and environmental consultants to support environmental stewardship initiatives and help maintain compliance with environmental commitments associated with spaceport activities. 

What You’ll Do 

Permits and Approvals 

• Assist with the preparation, submission, maintenance, and renewal of environmental permits and approvals. 
• Support communications and information requests from regulatory agencies and interested parties. 
• Track permit conditions and compliance requirements to ensure timely implementation. 

Environmental Planning and Mitigation 

• Assist with implementing environmental commitments and mitigation measures associated with project activities. 
• Support the preparation, review, and updating of environmental management plans and related procedures. 
• Participate in environmental inspections, audits, and site assessments as required. 
• Promote environmental awareness and best practices throughout the organization. 

Environmental Compliance Support 

• Assist with environmental compliance activities associated with construction and operational activities at Spaceport Nova Scotia. 
• Support the implementation of environmental management systems, plans, and procedures. 
• Assist in ensuring compliance with environmental approvals, permits, licenses, and regulatory requirements. 
• Maintain accurate environmental records, documentation, and compliance tracking systems. 

Environmental Monitoring 

• Assist with the implementation of environmental monitoring programs in accordance with environmental approvals and regulatory requirements. 
• Coordinate and support field monitoring activities, including environmental sampling and data collection. 
• Compile, review, and organize environmental monitoring data and reports. 
• Assist in identifying environmental risks, trends, and opportunities for continuous improvement. 

What You’ll Bring 

Essential Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline. 
• Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. 
• Excellent organizational, record keeping, and documentation skills. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic project environment. 
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Coursework, co-op placement, internship, field school experience, or practical experience related to environmental management or environmental monitoring. 
• Understanding of environmental assessment processes and environmental management systems. 
• Knowledge of Nova Scotia environmental legislation, regulations, and permitting requirements. 
• Familiarity with environmental monitoring programs and compliance reporting. 
• Experience conducting field work, including environmental sampling and data collection. 
• Knowledge of environmental sampling methodologies, protocols, and best practices. 
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications and environmental data management tools. 
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. 

LOCATION & FLEXIBILITY 

• Combination of office, remote, and field-based work environments. 
• Travel to and from Spaceport Nova Scotia and other operational locations as required. 
• Occasional work in outdoor conditions and remote environments. 
• Ability to participate in field activities, including walking uneven terrain and working in varying weather conditions.
